Acute miliary tuberculosis in a five-month-old boy

چکیده

Yau Ma Tei Dermatology Clinic, 12/F, Yau Ma Tei Specialist Clinic, 143 Battery Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong A five-month-old boy presented with fever and multiple cutaneous papular eruptions. Skin biopsy revealed disseminated cutaneous tuberculosis (tuberculosis cutis disseminata). Tissue culture revealed Mycobacteria bovis (BCG). He was later diagnosed to have severe combined immunodeficiency. The clinical course, management and literature review of acute miliary tuberculosis will be briefly discussed.

The peripheral blood of a 3 month old boy with disseminated tuberculosis showed CD30 positive monocytes on flow cytometric analysis. His liver contained CD30 positive staining macrophages and giant cells. CD30 is an activation antigen which has not been previously found on peripheral blood monocytes.
